What You Need To Know About Unflued Gas Heaters

    Australians spend on average 85% of their time indoors and more so in cold weather. While unflued gas heaters are not permitted to be used in bedrooms, the heat they produce, along with the pollutants they emit, can circulate throughout the dwelling for many hours.

    Concentrations of some pollutants (but not carbon monoxide) will be reduced if the pollutant is absorbed by surfaces in the room. For example, surfaces such as painted plasterboard, carpets and other furnishings can absorb formaldehyde and nitrogen dioxide.

These tasks can be achieved using a low cost, modular, open source micro-controller system known as an Arduino, powerful and flexible enough to form the basis of a wide range of systems.

    PV installation monitors, solar hot water controllers, household energy monitors etc, can be assembled from a selection of modules linked together with an Arduino and configured using simple to use software libraries.

Current Cost Monitor Developer Software

Required Hardware - Electricity Monitor & USB CableThere are plenty of third party software applications out on the net for the Current Cost monitor. We have done our best to also list the more complex ones here.

For software applications that are more plug n play visit our SOFTWARE page. The applications listed below run on Windows, Linux or Raspberry Pi.

The applications listed tend to use a modified USB cable to source data from the monitor. This in many cases means the use of a low powered PC 24/7 or Raspberry PI. In some cases an application may use the historic data from the monitor, meaning a PC can be powered up periodically to download the data.

Current Cost Data Spreadsheet By Olav BuunenOlav Buunen has done a great job with this Open Office Calc spreadsheet solution, whereby the Current Cost csv data is manipulated into xml data and input into spreadsheet for graphical analysis.

Also offered is a Javascript solution which displays the data easily in your web browser. Both of these solutions offer a nice and easy way to visualise the XML data, output from the Current Cost monitor.

You will need a copy of the C2 Terminal found on our SOFTWARE page to create the required csv file, before following Olav's instructions.

Current Cost Energy Monitor Data - Click To EnlargeIf you have a Current Cost Envi / EnviR Energy Monitor and are a MAC user, then this project may appeal to you. A solution created by Jorgen Skogstad for collecting the data, without having to send the data online.

And since there are no other MAC based standalone software application on the net [that we are aware of], then your choices are very limited.

The project collects data via MySQL and displays it via a dashboard created with DASHBUILDER.ORG. Truly a nice tidy energy monitoring dashboard solution. Future plans are to syncronise data with a mobile app.
